According to a blog on MLive.com Thursday evening, the Toledo Walleye are close being named a minor league affiliate of Detroit Red Wings.
MLive.com confirmed with Brian Compton of the NHL.com Web site that the Red Wings plan on renewing its affiliation with the Walleye.
Toledo had an affiliation with the Red Wings before the Storm folded after the 2006-07 season.
The MLive.com brief also mentioned that goalies, either 2009 draftee Jordan Pearce (Notre Dame) or 2008 draftee Thomas McCollum, could play for the Walleye this fall.
The Walleye start their inaugural East Coast Hockey League season in October at the new Lucas County Arena.
