TOLEDO, Ohio - Chris Robertson was already a happy man after scoring the game winner for the Walleye. He had no idea what he'd "face" afterwards!
Toledo had trailed Cincinnati for the most part and entered the third period down 3-2. Evan Rankin tied the game a little past the midway point of the final stanza, setting the stage for Robertson's heroics.
Robertson had already scored his first-ever goal as a member of the Walleye earlier in the game. Tied at three, he also had a golden opportunity with about 5:42 left on the clock when he took a stab at a rebound in front, but couldn't quite get enough of the puck to put it in.
Then with about 90 seconds left, the Walleye had an odd-man rush and the puck was dished to Robertson in stride down the left side. He wristed a shot into the goal as the crowd erupted.
After the game, as Robertson was asked about the moment and the win, his teammates made sure they showed their appreciation in the form of a whipped-cream pie in the face. It was a nice change of pace for a locker room that had suffered four straight losses.
In goal, Billy Sauer helped to keep the Walleye in the game. The former Michigan Wolverine made 36 saves on the evening.
Toledo next plays at home this Friday when the Florida Everblades come to Lucas County Arena.
