MUNCIE, Ind. - Behind a career-high 22 points from senior Jessica Slagle, the Bowling Green women’s basketball team posted a 63-52 win over Ball State Wednesday night.
The Falcons are 17-3 overall and 7-0 in the Mid-American Conference. The Cardinals drop to 7-13 and 2-5.
“With their trapping style, I thought Jess was under a lot of pressure all game,” BG head coach Curt Miller said about Slagle. “I know she’ll be frustrated with the amount of turnovers. But (with) the amount of times she was trapped, she made really good decisions ... and that’s what we needed.
“Overall we’re in the win column because of her.”
The Falcons used a 10-0 run late in first half, holding the Cardinals off the scoreboard for a 61⁄2-minute stretch, to open up a 17-point lead. Slagle scored 13 points in the first half.
“I was really pleased with that last four minutes of the first half ... We had an 11-2 run to finish the half and all of a sudden you’re up 17,” Miller said.
BG’s Alexis Rogers and Jasmine Matthews were in foul trouble in the first half and Miller credited the efforts of the other starters and players off the bench in helping the Falcons build the 39-22 lead at the break.
“That 17-point halftime lead gave us a lot of comfort,” Miller said.
