TOLEDO, Ohio - Central Catholic is unquestionably one of Toledo's football powerhouses. They just haven't shown it in the playoffs recently.
The Irish have made the playoffs in eight of the last nine seasons. During that time, they won the 2005 state championship. However, they haven't won a playoff game since.
Many Central fans will remember last year, when the team was the No. 1 seed, yet fell at home 34-7.
This year, Central is second-seeded in its region, which means they'll host a playoff game again. Both coaches and players assured FOX Toledo there'll definitely be no looking past any opponent.
Meanwhile, over at Whitmer, the Panthers are coming off their first City League football title in school history. As successful as they've been with a 9-1 record, starting quarterback Joe Missler had to leave last Friday's victory over Start with a hip pointer. It's an injury that may have knocked the senior out of that game, but it doesn't look like it'll keep him out of Saturday's playoff game against Canton McKinley.
