COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Natasha Howard scored 22 points despite being in foul trouble and lead Toledo Waite to 61-55 win over Kettering Fairmont in a Division I girls state semifinal Friday.
Howard, The Associated Press Ms. Basketball, had 18 points when she collected her third and fourth fouls within 36 seconds and exited with a minute to go in the third quarter while Waite was ahead 40-33.
Howard returned with 2:59 to play and Waite (24-2) up 54-51. Fairmont (22-3) got to within 56-55 on a rebound basket by Cassie Sant but Howard had four points and Shanice McNeal one in the final
two minutes.
Sant had 25 points, including eight in the fourth quarter.
Waite, in its first state tournament, will play either Canton McKinley or Reynoldsburg on Saturday at 8:30 p.m.
