TOLEDO, Ohio - An injured shoulder kept Aaron Opelt from playing against Northern Illinois.
That didn't keep Toledo from getting a win.
Third-string quarterback Alex Pettee led the Rockets to the game-winning drive culminated by a DaJuane Collins four-yard run Barry Church blocked a potentially NIU game-winning field goal late as UT propelled to its fourth win of the year, 20-19, over the Huskies.
That was just one of the many big plays coming from special teams. Church blocked another kick earlier in the game. Eric Page also returned a kick 41 yards to put the Rockets in position for their first touchdown, a 17-yard run by Collins.
Collins finished with 139 yards on 16 carries.
As for the quarterbacks, true freshman Austin Dantin had received the start, but he got hurt in the second half. Before Dantin was injured, he threw a touchdown late in the first half to put the Rockets in front 14-0.
But even with both Opelt and then Dantin watching, the Rockets were able to beat a team that had beaten Purdue earlier this season.
