BG pleased with recruiting haul

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Spurred by the momentum created by Freddie Barnes and a bowl appearance, Dave Clawson was visibly pleased with his recruiting haul on National Signing Day.

But as much as Barnes helped the recruiting process with his on-field performance, he's one of a large star-studded group of departing seniors.

This incoming class is expected to help ease the transition. Bowling Green concentrated on recruiting locally and looking at players with character. 19 of the 25 signed players are from either Ohio or Michigan. 21 of the guys were high school team captains.

Clawson told the media to really look for S Jerry "Booboo" Gates and WR Heath Jackson. He was also extremely proud of his two incoming quarterbacks, Trent Hurley and Caleb Watkins. Both will vie for the spot vacated by Tyler Sheehan. Watkins is already enrolled. He was high school teammates with Gates, along with another BG signee, WR Nick McKnight, all hailing from Middletown, Ohio. Other notables in the group include TE Tyler Beck (Big 33 all-star participant) and TE Kendall Montgomery (Rivals.com's #31 TE in the country).

Truth be told, Clawson was proud of all of his incoming recruits. Only time will tell to see how this class pans out.
