CHARLOTTE, NC - For years he dominated open wheel racing winning several points titles, and an Indy 500.
But the switch to NASCAR hasn't been easy for Defiance native Sam Hornish, Jr. He escaped a massive wreck two weeks ago, but last week rallied to finish fifth at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn.
It seems there is a lot more races, money and endorsement deals waiting for those who win on the NASCAR circuit. But it's quite a change.
Two weeks ago at Watkins Glen, Hornish's 77 car spun out of control and crashed. He luckily only suffered minor injuries, and didn't miss much track time.
Hornish is currently 26th in the Sprint Cup point standings. His goal his goal is to finish in the Top 20 by the end of the season.
