PERRYSBURG, Ohio (WUPW) - With a strong showing in this past summer's World Cup in South Africa and a bid by several American cities to host the 2018 Cup, the popularity of soccer continues to grow.
Several new Northwest Ohio leagues are forming for the fall.
Soccer is played year around. Indoor and outdoor opportunities all over are available for kids to get involved.
Several kids are practicing for the Knights of Columbus Soccer Shootout on Saturday, Sept. 11, at Rivercrest Park . Athletes ages 10-14 have the right to compete.
The goal is to score as many points as possible. Each participant will get at least 15 kicks and will accrue points. The net is dividing into scoring zones.
The contest runs from 9 a.m. - 12 noon. The winner will move onto a regional competition, and then have the chance to compete for a state title.
