DOWNTOWN TOLEDO - Toledo City Council was suppose to vote on whether to give the
police department a cut in pay and benefits, but that vote is
postponed. Council will now meet Tuesday at 4pm to just take public
input and discuss the vote ahead of them.
There is no word on when council will finalize their
decision.
Councilman D. Michael Collins and Dan Wagner, union president of the Toledo Police Patrolmans Association, both know why they got to this point. Both blame it on lack of contract negotiations.
The 2009 contract was not negotiated in good faith and Concilman Collins blames both the city and the union for what is happening now, though they both disagree on how the vote will go.
"Some of the conversations I've had sounds like they'll put this back on the administration to come back to the labor unions and operate in good faith," Wagner said.
Collins disagrees and is not sure how he will vote.
"Dan has a lot more optimism then I have," the councilman said. "Financially there's no basis to believe the city has buckets of money hidden anywhere."
Late Monday afternoon, Mayor Carty Finkbeiner
sent a letter asking council to consider a handful of
items before it votes on on the city's emergency ordinances.
