TEMPERANCE, Mich. - Regardless of the conditions, at 9 a.m. Saturday Bedford Christian Community Assembly of God in Temperance, Mich., will pass out more than 3,000 boxes filled with food to those in need.
Lead Pastor Nate Elarton said because of the unstable economy and continued financial hardships for many, the church has decided to help the community with free food.
"Anybody can come - from the Bedford area, Monroe County, Toledo, Lucas County, Whiteford Township - we don't care and no proof of need is necessary," Elarton said.
Once the food trucks arrive at the church, more than 150 volunteers will pack each box. Volunteers will then hand out one box per family in the church parking lot, located at the corner of Jackman Road and West Temperance Road or about nine miles north of the Ohio-Michigan state line.
"We got pasta, sauces, we have can goods, we have fresh orange juice coming on our truck tomorrow along with bakery items and cereals," Elarton said.
Bedford Christian Community Assembly of God partnered with Hope
and Encouragement for Humanity, a food and disaster relief
organization in Blissfield, for this giveaway.
