WEST TOLEDO - Former Oklahoma State defensive coordinator Tim Beckman was named as the University of Toledo's 25th football head coach Thursday afternoon at the new Sullivan Athletic Center.

Beckman was a defensive coordinator at Bowling Green under Urban Meyer and Gregg Brandon between 1998-2004 before taking an assistant coaching position at Ohio State (2005-06). He was the defensive coordinator and an assistant head coach with the Falcons and coached cornerbacks for the Buckeyes.

According to his online biography on the Oklahoma State football Web site, while at Bowling Green Beckman was nominated for the Frank Broyles Award, in recognition for being one of the nation's top assistant coaches.

In 2001, he was a finalist for the Broyles Award as he lead the Falcons and the Mid-American Conference in total defense, scoring defense, rushing defense, turnovers gained, and scoring margin.

He was named as one of the nation's top defensive coordinators by College Football News.

Beckman is a 1988 graduate of the University of Findlay and Berea High School in suburban Cleveland.
