POINT PLACE - Lucas County Commissioner Ben Konop is calling for an investigation of the county dog warden's office after a canine was allegedly shot and killed last week.

Commissioner Konop and Chad Synder, owner of a 10-pound Pomeranian that was allegedly shot by a deputy dog warden's tranquilizer gun, have asked the warden's advisory committee to find out exactly what happened.

According to witness accounts, the animal was on the porch of its Point Place home trying to get back inside. Moments later, a deputy warden shot the Pomeranian with a tranquilizer gun.

"I think they viciously executed a non-vicious dog," Snyder said Monday inside One Government Center's lobby. "It was cruel. Like Ben (Konop) said, I don't want this to happen to any other family or any daughter or son's pet."

Tom Skeldon, the county dog warden, refused to comment on the accusations.
