VILLAGE OF CYGNET - Cleanup efforts from the Feb. 18 oil leak at Mid-Valley Pipeline facility south of the village are now focusing on the area of the original leak near Tank Farm Road.

Brad Gilbert, director of the Wood County Emergency Management Agency, on Monday said there also are continuing efforts to ensure any residual crude oil doesn't creep back down river. Last week's heavy rains caused nearby Rocky Ford Creek and the Portage River to the north to rise and the current to increase.

Special cylindrical booms are still being used in areas of the nearby waterways to limit any further contamination.

"They're definitely keeping an eye on the waterways, especially with all the rain we got last week," Gilbert said.

He said much of the ongoing abatement effort is focusing on oil-contaminated soil near Tank Farm Road.
