OLD WEST END - Mercy College of Northwest Ohio is just one of a few local schools seeing an increase in students interested in furthering their education.
During itsd 2009 spring semester graduation ceremony Friday evening at Rosary Cathedral in Downtown Toledo, 188 students received some sort of degree or certificate and that was Mercy’s largest graduating class ever.
While some of the graduates are already working or have jobs lined up others are hoping to find work.
“I am concerned,” said graduate Clay Brunow, who received a bachelor’s in nursing. “I had an interview but I had to go down for a second one I think it will come around, it’s just a matter of time. I think after I pass my state boards it will all work out.”
Brunow said he will be persistent and stay optimistic about the job market.
Mercy College leaders say the health care field is in demand right now but students have to be willing to do the work to get the job they want.
“I would advise these students to be themselves in the job search process,” said Shelly McCoy Grisson, Associate Dean of Students and Chief Admissions Officer for Mercy.
“Go to as many job fairs, job interviews that they can. If they find themselves not being able to find employment right away to consider volunteering because that’s experience they can put on their resume.”
