Ottawa Co. leads Ohio's unemployment

Nearly 20% of workforce idle

NORTHWEST OHIO (WUPW) - Ohio's unemployment numbers grew in January in 87 of its 88 counties, according to a release by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services Office of Workforce Development. 

Ottawa county leads the state in unemployment, topping the chart at 19.8%  Delaware County, just north of Columbus, had the lowest rate at 8.4%.  In January, the comparable rate for Ohio was 11.8 percent.  The U.S. rate is 10.6%.

Here's how NW Ohio fared:

  • Crawford: 14.5%
  • Defiance: 14.1%
  • Fulton: 16.0%
  • Hancock: 10.4%
  • Henry: 15.5%
  • Lucas: 13.2%
  • Ottawa: 19.8%
  • Sandusky: 13.5%
  • Williams: 16.4%
  • Wood: 12.0%
  • Wyandot: 14.8%

February 2010 unemployment rates and nonagricultural wage and salary data for Ohio will be released by ODJFS on Friday, March 19. County, city and metropolitan area unemployment rates will be available on Friday, March 26.
