COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Ohio's elections chief says backers of a proposal to place casinos in Ohio's four largest cities have submitted enough signatures to qualify for the November ballot.
Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner says the Ohio Jobs and Growth Committee behind the plan submitted 452,956 valid signatures out of about 850,000 submitted. That surpassed the 402,000 necessary to qualify.
Brunner has separately launched an investigation into the committee's signature-gathering effort. She said Monday she found sufficient evidence to warrant a deeper look into opponents' complaints that the committee used felons to gather signatures and submitted dead people's names on petitions.
That action was followed by an immediate challenge in the Ohio Supreme Court.
