TOLEDO - Sometimes there's just no money to go around, and that's one reason thousands of children in our area won't get holiday gifts this year.
However, a group of area teens are hoping to change that.
Young men, hoping to become Eagle Scouts, are making a donation to Lucas County Children Services. They are presenting toys they have created by hand.
It's something the agency desperately needs right now, because they are working this season to help kids in need.
There are 55 toys, including yoyos, wooden dogs, even a cool
crayon holder that will be donated.
All of the items were created by Joey Lozano and his peers
who are hoping to become Eagle Scouts.
At the Woodcraft store on Airport Highway, members of Troop 2
were showing off the finished products.
"It makes me feel good to help out the community and help out other kids who don't have what I have," said Joey Lozano.
The wood working began about three months ago, and after a lot of planning with Joey's grandpa, the guys really started to make progress.
"I had to help Joey lean how to make these toys and stuff, then in turn he taught the other troop members how to make the toys," said Art Mroz, Joey's grandfather.
LCCS has the goal of serving about 2000 kids within the agency.
"Many kids aren't going to have much of a holiday at all, so they are going to have some recognition, their parents are going to be able to provide them with gifts," said Dean Sparks, of LCCS.
There will be drop off locations at area Burger King restaurants
and other places, if you want to help out the agency.
Donations are welcome until the middle of December.
