MONROE, Mich. - FBI and Monroe County, Mich., law enforcement found a body Thursday near the River Raisin in Rainsinville Township, northwest of Monroe, after working on one of the 800 tips in the search for missing 5-year-old Nevaeh Buchanan.
According to The Monroe Evening News, police officers spoke to the family that the body found was Nevaeh.
It is unclear when when the body was discovered. No positive indentification has been made, though representatives for the Buchanan family believe it's Nevaeh.
A clergyman close to the Buchanan family said to an assembled crowd Thursday evening at the Charlotte Arms apartments that "it is almost certain it's Nevaeh."
"It's sad that it took Nevaeh's life to put this community together," said a Nevaeh family relative to the crowd assembled at the apartment complex.
Ryan Bickley, 15, told The Associated Press that his father, Guy Bickley, 51, discovered the body encased in cement Thursday morning while fishing the River Raisin.
The teen said his father and grandfather were fishing from shore when Guy Bickley spotted a block of poured cement and noticed a bad aroma that he likened to a decomposing body. He said as his father moved closer to the cement block, the smell "overwhelmed them."
His father then chipped away a piece of the cement, revealing what appeared to be human skin. The men immediately notified police.
Thursday's search area was cordoned off while the task force conducted their investigation. Their search grid was about 10 miles east of the Village of Dundee and about 10 miles north of the Village of Ida in the western part of the county.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Department was unavailable for comment when reached by FOX Toledo News. A news conference by the county sheriff, though, has been scheduled for Friday morning.
Nevaeh was last seen 11 days ago in the parking lot of the Charlotte Arms apartments on Macomb Street.
The task force searched a rural area near the River Raisin, about 11 miles west of where Nevaeh was last seen.
