ADRIAN, Mich. - A Lenawee County woman remains behind bars after she allegedly abandoned her 3-year-old daughter on the side of the highway in the middle of the night, Lenawee County Sheriff detectives said.
Brandy Wellman, 30, was arraigned Friday in Lenawee County District Court in Adrian on child abandonment charges.
Detectives said a truck driver found the child in the road on US 223 just west of the Village of Palmyra, Mich., around 2:30 a.m. Sept. 16.
Wellman called police to report her child missing a few hours later, police said. After questioning by detectives, Wellman admitted she dropped her daughter off on the side of the road. She did not give a reason why.
The 3-year-old was not harmed.
Wellman's bond was set at $200,000 and she is expected back in court for a Sept. 28,
A $200,000 bond was continued while Wellman awaits a preliminary hearing set for Sept. 28.
