LUNA PIER, Mich. - The body of a Detroit man has been recovered from Lake Erie just south of Luna Pier, Mich.
The man died while rescuing a friend from a dangerous current on Lake
Erie. The U.S. Coast Guard received a call that a fisherman Tuesday morning who had been swept into the current near the Consumer Edison Plant.
Coast Guard Petty Officer Bill Colclough said 30-year-old Robert Coleman and a male friend were fishing south of Luna Pier when Coleman's friend fell into
the water.
Colclough said Coleman pushed his friend out of the current, but was swept out himself.
Coleman was unresponsive when his body was recovered by searchers. The Coast Guard, Monroe County sheriff's deputies and local personnel responded.
Colclough said Coleman's actions helped save his friend's life.
