LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm and First Gentleman Dan Mulhern have scored an invitation to what is being billed as Washington's hottest social event since President Barack Obama's inauguration.
Michigan's first couple will be dining on the White House lawn Tuesday as Obama hosts Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the first state dinner of the new administration.
Granholm and her husband earlier this year attended a White House dinner that the Obamas held for the nation's governors, and have attended similar dinners George W. Bush held for the governors while he was president.
But Granholm spokeswoman Liz Boyd said Friday they've never attended a White House dinner featuring a head of state.
