DETROIT, Mich. (AP) - The Detroit police chief says the department's internal affairs unit will look into whether officers used excessive force during the arrest of a man who led them on an extended car chase and later on foot.

Police say the suspect was wanted on six warrants and was driving on a suspended license when he crashed into a pickup truck Thursday evening and ran.

WWJ-AM reports he was captured a few blocks away from the crash scene.

Video captured by WJBK-TV appears to show an officer striking the suspect.

Police Chief Warren Evans tells the television station that if excessive force was used, his department won't "tolerate it."

Charges were pending against the suspect, and the occupants of the pickup truck were taken to a hospital for minor injuries.
