WAUSEON, Ohio - Fulton County has a new Republican Party chair, and she will be bringing over 25 years of experience back to the post.

Sandra Barber has been tapped to lead the GOP to replace R.J. Lumbrezer who stepped down citing family and health concerns.

She was elected to the post by the Republican Central Committee at a meeting on Oct. 27. She has been the county chairwoman two previous times, most recently stepping down in late 2007.

"Getting the county prepared for the 2010 election is my number one priority," she said. "That includes getting our committee activated and informed about candidates and issues coming up. We also need to begin raising funds for the party, I have a plan set and will be getting that implemented as soon as possible. I also want to plan some activities to get the party excited and motivated for the election."

Barber had served as county chairwoman for 26 years prior to coming back to the post.

"When you have done something for as long as I have, it comes naturally," she said. "I have a real passion for the party and its principles. It's really like riding a bike. Once you learn, you never really forget."

Barber sees the 2010 election as very important locally, in the state and nationally.

"I want to energize our voters and make sure they are fully aware of where all the candidates stand," she said. "We need to do that and also make sure our voters get out to the polls. That is the key to our winning in November 2010.

"On the local level, we have two important appointments to make early in January - Auditor and Clerk of Courts. The Central Committee will make those appointments, and it is something we will take very seriously."
