EAST TOLEDO - A family-owned business is expecting to see more dollars during tough times since owners believe their new spot is a rarity in the glass city.
It's called the Serenity Soul Food Family Restaurant.
"It's not greasy it's real fresh and good," said customer Dorothy Gray.
"Soul food comes from the heart. I believe years ago our ancestors cooked from the heart."
Since soul food restaurants aren't common in the city of Toledo this family owned business believes despite the struggling economy the only place this business can go, is up.
"We were just trying to do something to accommodate all the people in the city of Toledo."
Dorethea Reynolds is not only the head cook at Serenity, she's also the sister of the owner, and the daughter of the founders.
"My mother is an entrepreneur that's why I think she's always looking for different ways that we can do something to bring to the community," she said.
Finding a place to open Serenity was quite challenging. But after searching for weeks her family finally found a spot on Woodville Road. Now they're able to serve chicken, macaroni and cheese, yams, greens and more buffet style six days a week.
"I know this is something that they wanted to do and when the opportunity presented itself they went for it."
The word serenity comes from their church Serenity Church of God and Christ and because of tough times the family believes their faith will help keep them open.
"All we have to do is come in here and do what we have to do."
Serenity Soul Food Family Restaurant is located:
932 Woodville Road,
Toledo Ohio
The Restaurant is open Tuesday - Saturday from 9am - 8pm and Sunday from 12pm - 6pm. For more information call 419-671-6265
