WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that nearly 2,500 Ohioans have unclaimed tax refunds owed to them by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Out-of-date addresses have caused these refunds to be returned by the U.S. Postal Service, and more than 250 of these checks are waiting for Northwest Ohio taxpayers.

“Nearly 2,500 Ohioans can receive checks from the IRS if they update their mailing addresses,” said Brown. “With family budgets already stretched thin, Ohioans should not miss out on refunds they’re owed. I encourage all Ohioans who have not received their refunds to contact the IRS to determine if there’s a check waiting for them.”

Ohio taxpayers who have not received tax refunds can visit the “Where’s My Refund?” page at www.irs.gov or call to 1-800-829-1040 to check on their status.

Brown’s website, http://brown.senate.gov/, includes a link to the page and instructions on how Ohioans can claim tax refunds.
