WEST TOLEDO - So far, Toledo police have identified two people they say were involved with last week's shootout at the Route 66 Kitchen bar and grill. David Sawyer, the brother of one of the accused gunmen, is trying to clear things up.

Sawyer tells FOX Toledo News he doesn't want his brother to have a bad reputation because he was in the surveillance video, and seen shooting inside of the Route 66 Kitchen on Westwood Avenue just before midnight Oct. 8.

Sawyer said his brother was actually a good guy in the situation. He doesn't want to name his brother, who is a cook at the bar, but says his brother shot in self defense.

The late-night shootout unfolded after some patrons were kicked out of the bar for having drugs, then came back in with weapons.

"There are some villains in this, but also some heroes in this, and there's no doubt my brother did fire a firearm," Sawyer said. "But it's not that, it's why he fired the firearm."

Sawyer's brother is talking to an attorney about the situation, and also plans to speak with Toledo police.

If you have any information on any of the suspects or what took place at the Route 66 bar, you are asked to call Crimestoppers at (419) 255-1111. You can remain anonymous.
