NORWALK, Ohio - A Norwalk businessman is collecting signatures to try to get President Barack Obama out of office.
So far more than 80 people signed his petition.
Customers who had come to Hills' business at 31 E. Main St. over the past week were greeted by a huge sign asking them to sign the petition. His landlord, though, told him to take it down.
"The landlord was basically concerned about the windows cause it only takes one coop to come along and break the window," Hills said.
When Vanessa Erdei heard about Ric Hills "Impeach Obama" sign at Hills Maple City Cabinetry store she and her family drove 45 miles from Sheffield Lake in Lorain County to jump on board.
"I think it's so amazing how he started this. I think so many people are afraid to speak up," she said.
Hills said he doesn't dislike President Obama as a person, he's just disappointed with the way the government is going.
"The President is always the point man he always gets the blame or always gets the credit but my feeling is the whole government is a mess," Hills said.
Hills believes the country is heading towards progressive socialism and the country has been heading this way for quite some time.
"I would like to see our government go back to the constitution as the basis of our government if one would read the constitution and understood what the founding fathers meant when they wrote the constitution they can see now our government is so far from that."
So far he's collected 85 signatures, but some Norwalk residents say he's wasting time.
"That's 85 people out of how many?" said Adam Story.
"I think Obama is doing what he should be doing I don't think we should impeach him for what reason? I think we voted right and he's doing what we voted for, he said.
Hills said he plans to send the petition to Congress.
"I do not like the way the government is running its business," Hills said. "I don't like the direction the government is going. It's not just Obama. We are headed very quickly to a socialist state, and I don't like that."
Hills considers himself a member of the Constitution Party. He was a Republican who voted for Sen. John McCain in the 2008 election. In his store on Thursday, the distinctive sounds of right-wing talk show host Rush Limbaugh filled the air.
Reaction to his sign has been positive, Hills said.
"I had one negative phone call, but it's running 24 (or) 25 to 1
in favor," Hills said.
