MONROE, Mich. (AP) - Investigators looking for a missing Nevaeh Buchanan, last seen May 24, want to talk to the owner or driver of a green minivan that was parked at Hollywood School playground near where the girl last was seen more than a week ago.
While in Monroe, a FOX Toledo news crew noticed a green boxed van matching the description, was seen parked in that area early Monday afternoon, and called it into police.
In all, Monroe County Sheriff Tilman Crutchfield said Monday police are processing 800 tips in the case.
He also says authorities have spoken with two young boys who were believed to have been at the playground that day. The boys and the person with the minivan all were sought as potential witnesses.
"This type of incident is bothersome to them, myself included," the sheriff said. "I have grandchildren that age."
Nevaeh's family is starting to realize Nevaeh's case is receiving less coverage since the search has extended past a week.
Sheriff Crutchfield added that citizen-led searches have also been helpful. Many community members are still meeting at the Kmart on Monroe Street to canvas all areas of Monroe County. Volunteer search crews have been starting daily searches at 10 a.m. One search crew canvassed a portion of the county until 2 a.m. early Monday.
"Of course, we'd like to recover Nevaeh," Sheriff Crutchfield said. "We'd like to recover her safe and well."
A reward of $8,000 has been collected so far by the community for anyone who can provide information that leads to a felony arrest and prosecution of the suspect or suspects responsible for the abduction of Nevaeh.
Ryan Duvall, owner of Duvall Group Investigations, created the fund.
