DETROIT, Mich. - Former University of Toledo basketball player Keith Triplett plead not guilty Friday to point shaving charges in U.S. District Court in Detroit.
Triplett was released on bond. According to various Web sites, he played for Ratiopharm Ulm, which is part of a German basketball league. Triplett was in Europe Thursday.
According to a discovery document filed May 21, federal prosecutors said they are prepared to present as evidence in trial surveillance photographs and videotapes, telephone records, recorded conversations and financial records, among other items.
If convicted, Triplett, along with five other former UT student-athletes could each face up to five years behind bars and $250,000 in fines. Federal prosecutors charged them in a point-shaving scheme and conspiracy to commit sports bribery.
Adam Cuomo, Anton Currie, Kashif Payne, Harvey "Scooter" McDougle, and Quinton Broussard all entered not guilty pleas during separate appearances in federal court earlier in month.
Former basketball player Sammy Villegas, who is allegedly involved in the point-shaving scheme, will be sentenced June 18 in Detroit. Federal prosecutors charged Villegas in August 2008 of felony conspiracy to influence a sporting contest by bribery.
