DOWNTOWN TOLEDO - Michael Swiergosz's trial in Lucas County Common Pleas court was to have started Monday, but it was continued until January 2010.
His lawyers are trying to work on a plea agreement. His trial has been continued twice, most recently Nov. 16, while his lawyer work out the agreement.
The 46-year-old is accused of holding his wife hostage in late April inside a West Toledo senior living facility. He was indicted by a Lucas County grand jury in May.
Swiergosz was arraigned on a $2.5 million bond - $500,000 on two counts of felonious assault and two counts of kidnapping stemming from the April situation. Another $500,000 was also added to the bond for initial charges of felonious assault stemming from a stand off and a neighborhood lock down in Springfield Township with Lucas County authorities on March 10. His March bond was set at $25,000.
Among the long list of charges he's facing are felony assault, rape, kidnapping and aggravated burglary.
If convicted on all charges Swiergosz could be sentenced to more
than 150 years behind bars.
