FOX TOLEDO NEWS - With the winter season fast approaching, FOX Toledo News will kick-off its "Smoke Detectors Saves Lives" campaign Friday, Nov. 6, in Perrysburg.
In conjunction with the Wood County Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Perrysburg Rotary Club Foundation 200 donated smoke detectors will be distributed to those who need them between 4-6 p.m. at the Perrysburg Fire Department, located at 140 W Indiana Ave.
FOX Toledo and the Wood County Red Cross want to make sure you have a brand new working smoke detector for your home. Smoke detectors will be handed out while supplies last.
Earlier this year FOX Toledo, the Red Cross and several fire regional fire departments gave away over 1000 free smoke detectors to area residents in need. We instituted this campaign in the wake of a Jan. 21 house fire on Toledo's east side that killed two children and injured four others.
A smoke alarm is critical for the early detection of a fire in your home and could mean the difference between life and death, according to FireSafety.gov. Fires can occur in a variety of ways and in any room of your home. But no matter where or how, having a smoke alarm is the first key step towards your family's safety.
If you miss the Nov. 6 free smoke detector giveaway, FOX Toledo has many more giveaways planned throughout the region this fall and winter.
