TOLEDO, Ohio - Two University of Toledo economic professors dropped their lawsuit against Toledo's police and fire unions.
UT professors Dr. David Black and Dr. Oleg Smirnov released a statement Tuesday saying the Toledo Police Patrolman's Association and Toledo Firefighters Local 92 union had assured them there was never any intent to offend the two.
In May Dr. Black and Dr. Smirnov filed a defamation suit against the unions claiming the unions had publicly libeled and slandered them. The unions had disputed the city's budget deficit numbers that Black and Smirnov had came up with.
The statement released by both sides said the professors were simply caught in the middle of a dispute between the unions and the city.
