EAST LANSING, Mich. - According to Michigan State University police, 18-year-old Nikolai E. Wasielewski of Rossford was one of four Michigan State University students arrested after a three-inch mortar exploded in an East Lansing yard.
Campus police spokeswoman Florene McGlothian-Taylor told the Detroit Free Press for a story Wednesday that the device was powerful enough to kill someone.
The mortar was detonated Sunday. Two additional devises were found in a car after the students were arrested. The devices were destroyed by the Michigan State Police Bomb Squad.
Wasielewski, Olivia Hudson, 18, of Okemos, Mich.; Sasha Savage, 18, of Okemos; and Darby Dudley, 18, of Mason, Mich., were charged with placing explosives and causing property damage. They also are charged with possession of bombs with unlawful intent to cause property damage.
Both charges are felonies, carrying possible penalties of 20 years in prison and/or $15,000.
The students were released after posting bond Monday following a hearing in East Lansing District Court.
