FREMONT, Ohio - Former Clyde-Green Springs Exempted Village Local School District Superintendent Todd Helms pleaded guilty to stealing close to $300,000 from district booster clubs.
Helms admitted to 10 felony corruption charges in Sandusky County Common Pleas Court, including six counts of theft as part of a plea deal. He could face up to 28 years in prison. One charge could land Helm in jail for at least eight years.
A special audit released in August revealed nearly $300,000 disappeared due to elaborate fraud schemes created by Helms. Auditor of State Mary Taylor initiated the the special audit on Aug. 5, 2008 after the review and evaluation of allegations against Helms.
Helms will be sentenced Dec. 9.
