DOWNTOWN TOLEDO - Toledo Mayor Carty Finkbeiner has said that time has run out for city council members who haven't done enough to get the city out of its nearly $9 million budget hole.
The mayor fired off another memo to council late Monday afternoon stating council hasn't done enough to get the Glass City to a balanced budget.
Mr. Finkbeiner said his administration and the unions have worked to get rid of the deficit by taking pay cuts and laying off a handul of police officers, but he believes council should be doing things like raising taxes and implementing a garbage fee increase.
Some council members said playing the blame game isn't helping the citizens of Toledo.
"We could be collecting back taxes that people owe us, I has proposed before that we get rid of furloughs for the auditors so we can start collecting that money," said Councilman George Sarantou.
"It's really disappointing we are trying very hard to work with the mayor to make budget decisions to put safety first, it just seems like everytime we get close to compromise, the mayor says no, no, no," said Council President Joe McNamara.
McNamara and Sarantou have said the mayor has flip-flopped on Issue One and don't understand why he won't fully support it.
