NORTH TOLEDO - Decoma Modular Systems, Inc., said it will go forward with a $17.5 million expansion of its manufacturing operation in Toledo and add over 125 new jobs in 2010.
"How big is this expansion? Big," said Mayor Carty Finkbeiner.
The North Toledo supplier of components for the Jeep Wrangler and Dodge Nitro, said its multi-million-dollar expansion will include equipment and overall upgrades to its facility located in the North Cross Industrial Park.
The expansion is for realigning the equipment inside also getting seven large injection mold presses.
"The geographical proximity is why this has happened - Chrysler is right next door, and Mazda is right up the interstate," the mayor added.
Decoma, a branch of Magna International, makes inside door panels that go on vehicles. They also make green energy products for vehicles.
Those who helped make this project possible say this growth is perfect for Toledo, especially economically.
"This may have some impact on local tooling firms -- electrical contractors doing all of the internal work, also the installation contractor is from Toledo," said Hans Rosebrock, a First Energy representative.
"We all know that this spins", added Don Monroe, development specialist. "You eat lunch after work, go to the store. This is a major investment for us."
Those who would like to apply for its new jobs can do so at The Source, at 1301 Monroe St., downtown.
