OH police officer shoots suspect

VILLAGE OF OTTAWA HILLS, Ohio - The Ohio Attorney General's Office is investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place early Saturday morning in the Village of Ottawa Hills.

According to a press release sent to FOX Toledo News, at 2:18 a.m. Saturday, Ottawa Hills police officers were involved in a short pursuit of two motorcycles on Indian Road near Central Avenue.

It further states, “While the first motorcycle operator was being arrested on Central Avenue by an assisting officer, the second motorcycle operator was stopped on Indian Road and was ultimately shot by an Ottawa Hills Police officer.”

The shooting victim was identified by family members as Mike McCloskey, who is in his early 20s.

Family members told FOX Toledo News the victim, who was returning home from work, was shot in the back and was in surgery at Toledo Hospital.

The other motorcyclist was charged with OVI, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, and fleeing from police. The other motorcyclist, who was not identified, was booked at the Lucas County Jail in Downtown Toledo.

The officer in question is on administrative leave during the investigation.

The department has turned the investigation over to the Ohio Attorney General’s Office-Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation.
