There seem to be more shoppers, but less earth-shattering deals this year, some Black Friday shoppers told FOX Toledo News.
Some stores, like Toys”R”Us, opened as early as possible – midnight Friday. Other stores opened later in the morning.
Some die-hard shoppers wait all year – and then all hours of the night – for Black Friday.
“I like the competition, I like the excitement, I love the bargains,” Nicole Coffman said, alongside her two young daughters inside the Build-a-Bear Workshop at Westfield Franklin Park. “For me this is winning the lottery.”
Jodi Ovall is equally excited.
“I like shopping when it's busy. I just find it fun. I don't get impatient, I enjoy the crowds. I feel great, I enjoy this day!” Jodi Ovall said.
Shoppers like Ovall and retailers share anticipation for the day after Thanksgiving.
Westfield Franklin Park’s retailers have reported that turnout has been on-par with expectations.
But some customers told FOX this time around – they think the economy is factoring in. Even though it appears more people are cashing in on the deals, they don't see the same drastic price cuts they once did.
“It's not quite as good as years past, I think everybody's pretty desperate,” Ovall said. “But, there's still some good deals.”
“The sales are there,” said father-of-three Dustin Perkins. “The deals are worth comin' out and bearing the crowds […] especially with three kids, any couple of dollars off helps out.”
