TOLEDO, Ohio (WUPW) - What was supposed to be Monday's Labor Day Parade became more of a political parade.

Vice President Joe Biden's second appearance in the area after only two weeks spurred some debate about his reasons for coming. While Democrats welcomed the visit, saying it's an opportunity to bring some attention to Northwest Ohio's problems and how to solve them, Republicans said it was a waste of taxpayers dollars in order to fund democrats campaigns.

Latest poll numbers from the Columbus Dispatch newspaper indicate that Republican challengers are leading Democrats by double digits.

For example, Gov. Ted Strickland is 12 points behind Republican challenger John Kasich.

Gov. Strickland said he never claimed to be perfect or a perfect governor, but he's been working hard.

The press secretary for Kasich's campaign, Rob Nichols, said everyone appreciates a hard worker, but you don't get a trophy just for showing up for work.

Chances are, Toledoans will be seeing more high-profile politician appearances in the months ahead, as the elections approach.
