CENTRAL TOLEDO - Chief Mike Navarre tells FOX Toledo News that Officer James Breier, 53, was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated Friday afternoon. Breier was allegedly driving drunk while on-duty in a Toledo police patrol car.

A firefighter who came into contact with Breier had suspicions he may have been intoxicated, Navarre said. A police supervisor was sent to the area of Detroit and Berdan to meet Breier to investigate the allegations.

Breier was arrested around 2:30 Friday afternoon and taken to the Lucas County Jail where he was charged with the first-degree misdemeanor. He was later released.

Navarre said Breier was relieved of duty for the rest of the day, and will not return to work until it is determined through an internal investigation that he is capable of performing his duties.
