TOLEDO, Ohio (WUPW) - In an effort to resist the pressures to experiment with drugs fifth graders from Longfellow Elementary in West Toledo graduated from the DARE program.
Students have been working with the Lucas County Sheriff's Department learning about the consequences of drug abuse, decision making and positive alternatives to substance abuse.
Sheriff James Telb presented the students with their certificates of accomplishment.
"The kids are really excited about it, it's something they'll take the rest of their lives," he said. "They'll be our emissaries out there, telling other kids, don't screw around with drugs. This is what it does to you."
The DARE program at Longfellow is the only DARE experience within Toledo Public schools.
