HURON, Ohio (WUPW) - A 7-year-old boy from California had the opportunity to be the one to push the button and implode a massive ConAgra grain silo in Erie County.
Maxwell Hinton never thought he would get a chance to play with explosives at such a young age. But on Sunday the little boy's big dream came true thanks to an organization that turns wishes into realities.
"I watch MythBusters and they inspired me to blow a building up," said the young boy from Fresno, Calif.
What was once a granary is no more thanks to Max. On Sunday the boy imploded the old ConAgra grain mill with help from the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
"I got cancer, Neuroblastoma, and I went through treatment and they made a wish for me," Maxwell said.
The implosion of the old granary is the final phase of a four year project in Huron. Between 30,000 - 40,000 enjoyed watching the building implode Sunday afternoon.
Organizers say in order to sell the 11 acre property the building had to come down, and doing that with Maxwell's help made the project more exciting.
"It's been a great experience for him but it's a great experience for this whole area," said organizer Doug Studer.
