TOLEDO, Ohio (WUPW) - TOLEDO, Ohio (WUPW) -- A Toledo strip club has come up with a unique way to raise money for earthquake relief efforts in Haiti. Marilyn’s on Monroe is holding an event called “Lap Dances for Haiti” this Saturday, Feb. 6, from 7 p.m. - 2:30 a.m.
“Just like everyone our hearts went out to all the victims in Haiti and we thought what can we do to help,” said club manager, Kenny Soprano. "I'd say its for the people who are into this type of thing."
Marilyn's on Monroe plans to donate 100% of its $10 cover charge to Haiti relief. The club says it hasn't yet decided just which charity the money to go to. They just hope it will be accepted.
"A charity is a charity," Soprano said. "If you need the money, who is to say who should judge who and where it comes from?"
At least one Toledo area charity does not see a problem with it.
Linda Greene from International Services of Hope, a Christian based organization, says ISOH/Impact in Waterville has already sent 13 containers to Haiti. Each one costs $5,000 to ship, so no matter where the money comes from., she'll take it.
"I think it is a great idea," Greene said. "I don't have a problem with anyone who wants to donate because God's not a respecter person and I'm not either. We don't have the right to judge a person's heart. And if somebody is doing something they have to do for a living then that's the way it is."
UPDATE Feb 8, 2010
Marilyn's on Monroe raised $950 for ISOH/Impact and Haiti humanitarian relief with its Lap Dances for Haiti event Feb. 7.
The club's manager of the club owns several other establishments around the area. He hopes to raise more money in the weeks to come. They hope to reach a goal of $5,000.
