TEMPERANCE, Mich. (WUPW) - A Temperance, Mich., family has thousands of books to give away after being inspired by the Idol Gives Back episode of American Idol.
"We were watching American Idol Gives Back and he didn't know why some kids didn't have books and why they were giving them to them. I explained to him some parents can't afford books,” said Amanda Mills. “He said his books were boring and he wanted to get rid of them. So that's what we ended up doing.”
Mills and her 5 year-old son Nicholas launched a book drive. They asked clients of their family business, Barron Insurance , to donate new and used books. A few short months later they more than doubled their goal.
Mills said, "One family donated almost 400 books and after that we started getting books, and books, and books."
The books are stashed everywhere, at the office and at home. Family House in Toledo is getting 150 of them, but they still have 2,500 more.
"We weren't expecting to get this many. No we have a problem with the volume. So we'll take anybody who wants them," said Mills.
Any organization or family is asked to contact Mills at Barron Insurance & Financial Services Agency at 734-847-3831.
