TOLEDO, Ohio (WUPW) - Union members, students, teachers and area residents gathered for a more transit equals more jobs rally.

They called for more transit funding in Toledo to help create more jobs.

The event took place at the same time as similar rallies Thursday in other cities across the United States organized by the Transportation Equity Network (TEN), an organization trying to transform mass transit.

"We have the opportunities in the next few months with unallocated stimulus funding and with transportation bills that are coming up for re-authorization to divert and re-authorize some of that money into public transit and we're talking about things like busses," said Michael Hale.

TEN hopes more transportation funding will give Northwest Ohio and Toledo an economic shot in the arm.
