BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green resident Mark Manley has donated over 100 smoke detectors for this afternoon's FOX Toledo "Smoke Detectors Saves Lives" giveaway, which is from 4-6 p.m. at the Woodland Mall in Bowling Green.
Members of the Wood County chapter of the American Red Cross and the Wood County Firefighters Association will be on hand to distribute smoke detectors between 4-6 p.m. The event is open to all Wood County residents.
FOX Toledo and the American Red Cross want to make sure you have a brand new working smoke detector for your home. Smoke detectors will be handed out while supplies last.
Earlier this year FOX Toledo, the Red Cross and several fire regional fire departments gave away over 1000 free smoke detectors to area residents in need. We instituted this campaign in the wake of a Jan. 21 house fire on Toledo's east side that killed two children and injured four others.
A smoke alarm is critical for the early detection of a fire in your home and could mean the difference between life and death, according to FireSafety.gov. Fires can occur in a variety of ways and in any room of your home. But no matter where or how, having a smoke alarm is the first key step towards your family's safety.
If you miss the Dec. 4 free smoke detector giveaway, FOX Toledo has many more giveaways planned throughout the region this fall and winter.
