MAUMEE, Ohio (WUPW) - "Violent and aggressive is how the Toledo Humane Society describes the behavior of Sarge, a German Shepherd at the facility who recently bit a trainer and veterinarian.
Sarge has been staying at the Humane Society since he was shot six times in early July, allegedly by his owner, Lawrence Mick.
Executive Director Jon Dinon said the trainer and veterinarian were working with Sarge when the canine bit them.
Dinon believes his injuries may contribute to his behavior problems, but they're not the cause of them.
"Since he has a history of aggression before he got here and because he snapped at some people who weren't doing anything, that could be painful," Dinon said. "You know, being shot certainly didn't improve his disposition, but we don't think that's completely the cause of his aggressive behavior."
Mick faces several charges, including animal cruelty. His girlfriend claims he was acting in self defense because Sarge had bitten him and his girlfriend.
Dinon said Mick signed a waiver when he got Sarge and knew the dog was vicious.
