TOLEDO, Ohio (WUPW) - Toledo Fire Assistant Chief Luis Santiago said his staff believes they could have a serial arsonist setting fires throughout the city.

Asst. Chief Santiago said Wednesday afternoon that in the past 24 hours there have been three suspicious vacant house fires in the south end and two on the east side.

No one was injured in the fires.

Santiago said there are several reasons someone might set fires.

"Whether they want houses torn down, some of them do it for scrapping purposes," he said. "They'll light a house hoping it gets torn down. They can then come back and retrieve all the metal products."

The city's fire arson division is investigating.
