MONROE, Mich. (WUPW) - A convicted sex offender will serve up to two more years in prison after the Michigan Parole Board reversed a decision to grant Rex Layman's release.

Back in 1998, Layman was convicted of molesting two young girls in Lambertville. He was sentenced to 8 to 30 years in prison.

The parole board granted his release recently, but the Monroe county Prosecutors Office reviewed the case and fought for him to stay behind bars because they believe Layman is not rehabilitated.

"Looking at some of the circumstances of the crime and looking at some of the things he said while in prison, we felt that he would be a danger to the community and he's be likely to re-offend," said Michael Brown, county assistant prosecutor.

Layman has already served 12 years.
